Afghan officials say insurgents have killed 15 people in two attacks in the country, where Taliban violence persists following the formal end of a 13-year NATO-led combat mission last month.

A government spokesman in the eastern province of Laghman said a roadside bombing killed four people in the provincial capital, Mehtar Lam, on January 29.

Authorities in the central province of Ghazni said 11 members of a pro-government militia were killed and six wounded in a Taliban attack on a checkpoint in the Andar district late on January 28.

Deputy governor Mohammad Ali Ahmad said six Taliban fighters were killed and seven were wounded.

A police official said militants had inside information from one of their own who had infiltrated the volunteer militia last year.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Taliban was responsible for the attack.
