At least five people have been killed in a car bombing in Afghanistan's southern province of Helmand.

Officials said the attack on October 8 targeted former district police chief Abdullah Khan.

The vehicle exploded near Khan’s house in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.

The former police chief and 18 other people were wounded in the attack.

The dead and wounded included police officers and civilians.

Some reports said Khan had recently been removed as the Nawzad district police chief and was to be appointed in another district.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban frequently target Afghan security forces and government officials.
