Afghan Shooter Wore Army Uniform

The Pentagon says the gunman who killed three U.S. contractors at the Kabul airport on January 29 was in an Afghan army uniform and was subsequently killed.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said on January 30 that the attack that killed three civilian aircraft mechanics is under investigation.

Earlier on January 30, the Taliban had claimed responsibility for the shootings.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the shooter was a Taliban fighter who had infiltrated the ranks of Afghan security forces to stage the attack and was wearing an Afghan police uniform.

Kirby said the United States has no information to confirm or deny a Taliban role in the attack.

An Afghan Defense Ministry official said the gunman was wearing an Afghan army uniform.
