Abdullah Calls For Further Delay In Presidential Vote Results

Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah has called for the preliminary results of the runoff election to be delayed to ensure that all suspicious votes have been audited.

Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission has already delayed the release of the first results after complaints from Abdullah of corruption and ballot stuffing in favor of his opponent, Ashraf Ghani.

Abdullah said on July 6 that "we are asking for...thorough auditing, then preliminary results afterward."

He added that "we are honored to claim that we are the majority of votes in Afghanistan that are clean."

First results are due to be released on July 7.

Abdullah said on July 6 that he would reject the final tally if his demands were not met.

But Ghani said the results from the June 14 election cannot be delayed again.

Final results are due on July 24.
