Militants Kill Four Afghan Policemen

Afghan officials says insurgents have launched attacks on several police checkpoints in the northeastern Badakhshan Province, killing at least four officers.

Badakhshan police officials said on October 26 at least seven others were wounded in the assaults.

A large number of insurgents simultaneously attacked several outposts in Wardoj district late on October 26, police said.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attacks, but Taliban militants frequently target Afghan security forces and have previously claimed many similar attacks.

Afghanistan's Bakhtar news agency reported that Afghan security forces launched an operation against Taliban militants in Badakhshan's Darayem district last week.

Ten militants were killed and three others detained in that operation, the news agency reported.

The figures cannot be independently confirmed.
