New Zealand’s elite national team has defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in a Cricket World Cup match in Napier, New Zealand.
The victory on March 8 was the fifth in the tournament for the unbeaten New Zealand team, which had already qualified for the quarterfinals before its match against Afghanistan.
Afghanistan were all out for 186, with Najibullah Zadran as the top Afghan scorer with 56 and Samiullah Shenwari making 54.
The 2015 Cricket World Cup tournament in New Zealand and Australia is the first in the format for the Afghan team, which is comprised mostly of players who learned the game in refugee camps in Pakistan.
On February 26, Afghanistan won its first World Cup match ever by defeating Scotland by one wicket.
In other previous Pool A matches since the tournmanet began in February, Afghanistan has lost to Australia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
The Afghan team will play England next on March 13 for its final match of the tournament.
