Afghan officials say at least six police officers have been killed when Taliban militants attacked a checkpoint in the southern province of Kandahar.
Samim Khpalwak, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said the attack took place in Maiwand district late on February 16.
Khpalwak said the Taliban also suffered “heavy casualties" during the exchange of fire.
He also said weapons and ammunition were seized from the militants.
There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.
In the capital, Kabul, police said a bomb attached to a vehicle wounded one person early on February 17.
Witnesses were quoted as saying the target was an official, who was not hurt.
