Five Afghan Police Killed In Insurgent Attack

At least five Afghan police officers were killed on July 7 in an insurgent attack in the country's west.

A district police chief, Shir Ahmad, was among those killed in Herat's Farsi district when their vehicle was hit by a rocket.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The violence comes as the Taliban has stepped up attacks against Afghan security forces ahead of preliminary results due to be announced on July 7 in the second round of the country's contested presidential election.
