Afghan officials say Taliban militants have killed at least seven police officers in an ambush in northern Kunduz Province.

Nasruddin Khan, governor of Dashti Archi district, said the police officers were traveling to a neighboring province to collect their salaries when they were ambushed by up to 30 fighters on March 12.

Two Taliban insurgents were also killed in the clash.

Meanwhile, Governor Muhammad Sayed Sediqi of Parwan Province, north of the capital Kabul, said four police officers were killed while manning a security post on March 11 in Syagurd district.

In 2014, more than 5,000 police officers were killed by insurgents, raising concerns about the force's sustainability.
