Gunmen have attacked the American University of Afghanistan in the west of Kabul, with explosions and gunfire reported inside the campus.
“We don’t know yet the number of attackers, but fighting is going on,” Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Seddiqi said, adding that the area was now surrounded by security forces.
“I can tell you that [the attackers] are here. They are here. I cannot see how many they are," a student inside the compound told RFE/RL’s Radio Free Afghanistan. “There was a huge explosion. All the windows broke then firing started and one of my friends is also wounded.”
