The first complete day of competition on August 6 saw three new swimming world records fall as well as plenty of action in other sports, including judo, road cycling, volleyball, basketball, shooting, and archery.

The Rio Olympics are now in full swing after the Summer Games were declared officially open on August 5 in Brazil.
