Japan swept the gold medals on the first day of the Olympic women's wrestling tournament. Kaori Icho (right) became the first wrestler in Olympic history to win four gold medals, beating Russia's Valeria Koblova Zholobova 3-2 in the 58-kilogram women's freestyle.

A Russian boxer was taken out of the arena in a wheelchair amid agony and tears after she injured her arm in a Rio Olympic semifinal bout. With one minute left of the first round against France's Estelle Mossely, Anastasia Belyakova, 23, threw a punch at an awkward angle with her left hand and then immediately cried out in pain and stopped.
