Pakistan's Supreme Court has suspended a lower court decision that would have allowed former leader Pervez Musharraf to leave the country.

Reports said the Supreme Court ruled late on June 23 that Musharraf's name could not be removed from the Exit Control List and reimposed the travel ban on the former president.

The government of current Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had appealed the decision to allow Musharraf to leave the country.

Musharraf still faces a series of charges, including treason, but his attorneys had pleaded for Musharraf to be allowed to leave Pakistan to visit his ailing mother in Dubai.

His lawyers had given assurances Musharraf would return after the visit.

Musharraf went into self-exile in Dubai in 2008 but returned in March 2013 to run in elections, only to be charged and detained shortly after arriving back.
