Officials say 73 people were killed when two passenger buses and a fuel tanker collided on a major highway in eastern Afghanistan.
The collision happened in the morning on May 8 in Muqur district of Ghazni Province, on the main highway linking the capital, Kabul, to the southern city of Kandahar.
Jawed Salangi, a spokesman for the Ghazni governor, said dozens more were injured in the collision that set all three vehicles ablaze.
Officials say the road has since been cleared and reopened for traffic in the early afternoon.
Muqur police said they were investigating the cause of the accident but said early findings indicate that the crash was caused by reckless driving.
Traffic accidents are common in Afghanistan, where traffic laws are rarely enforced and roads are often in poor condition.
