Thousands of people have been displaced and scores are missing. Authorities have dispatched helicopters to search for stranded villagers.
Officials said April 25 that at least 43 people had been killed in Jowzjan Province, including at least 16 in the provincial capital Sheberghan.
Dozens of others are missing after the floodwaters hit the Qosh Tepa, Darzab, and Khoja Do Koh districts.
Deputy Governor Abdul Rahman Mahmoudi said nine villages in Darzab were destroyed.
He described the floods as the worst in the area in 30 years.
