Iran says it has arrested 10 Sunni Muslim militants who were planning to bomb 50 targets in the country.

Iranian media quoted Intelligence Minister Mahmud Alavi as saying on June 21 that the "terrorists" were arrested in Tehran and three other provinces in the last week.

Alavi told a news conference in Tehran that the group had planned to attack busy public locations with remotely detonated explosions, suicide attacks, and car bombs.

The minister also said authorities had confiscated 100 kilograms of explosives and thwarted the delivery of at least 1,000 kilograms.

Ali Shamkhani, the head of Iran’s National Security Council, was quoted as saying on June 20 that a group of IS sympathizers was arrested in Tehran on charges of plotting terrorist attacks across the country.
