Officials say the death toll from two bomb explosions in Istanbul has risen to 38 with another 166 wounded as Turkey declared a national day of mourning.

Police said a car bomb hit a police vehicle and a suicide bomber detonated a suicide vest outside a stadium late on December 10, two hours after a football match between two of Turkey's top teams.

The dead include 30 police officers, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on December 11, adding that 13 suspects have been detained.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s office said he canceled a trip to Kazakhstan due on December 11-12.

No group has said it was behind the attack, but Soylu said Kurdish militants were believed to be responsible.

A wave of bombings in Turkey this year has been carried out both by the Kurdistan Workers Party and the Islamic State extremist group.
