At least six members of an Afghan family have been killed by an improvised explosive device in eastern Afghanistan.

Those killed by the blast included four children, a police official in Paktika Province said on February 20.

Police chief Zarawr Zahid said that "the Taliban placed an improvised explosive device on the road to target the security forces in Wazkhwa district," but a passing motorcycle set off the land mine that killed the six family members.

No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.

But Taliban insurgents and members of the Haqqani terrorist network are
actively operating in Paktika Province.

Zahid said the the militant groups "don't care about civilian causalities."

The Afghan Interior Ministry condemned the attack, which it blamed on "the enemies of Afghanistan."
