15 Militants, One Soldier Killed in Pakistan Battle

Clashes between Pakistani security and Baloch separatists are common in Balochistan.

Pakistani security forces say they have killed 15 militants and lost one soldier in a gunbattle in the restive southwestern province of Balochistan.

The clash took place on February 10 in the Kharan district, southwest of the provincial capital, Quetta.

The Frontier Corps said three soldiers were also wounded in the fighting.

The paramilitary force said security forces seized arms and ammunition from the militants.

An unidentified official said the militants belonged to the separatist Baloch Liberation Front, which has been carrying out attacks on security forces and government installations in the province bordering Iran and Afghanistan.

Mineral-rich Balochistan is Pakistan's least developed province.

It has been the scene of a low-scale insurgency for years, with separatist groups demanding more autonomy and a greater share in the region's natural resources.
