A Pakistani court has reportedly ordered the government to show if it has detained an activist against U.S. drone strikes targeting suspected militants in Pakistani tribal areas.
The French news agency AFP quotes a lawyer for Kareem Khan as saying that the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court ordered the government on February 12 to present Khan to the court or provide the reason for his arrest by February 20.
Police have denied involvement, but Khan’s supporters say another agency may have detained him last week.
The human rights group Amnesty International said it's concerned that Khan may have been "disappeared" by authorities to prevent him from traveling to the European Parliament to testify about the impact of drone strikes.
Khan says his brother and son were killed in a 2009 drone strike.
