People on foot, bicycles, and in vehicles tried to reach the other side of the Kabul River in Pakistan's Charsadda district on August 26 as its roaring waters came dangerously close to the top of a bridge due to heavy rain. Throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, dozens have been killed and hundreds of houses damaged or swept away. The police and the Pakistani Army have been called in to keep people away from dangerous bridges. Sardaryab Bridge -- the one connecting Charsadda with the main part of Peshawar -- is predicted to collapse if floodwaters rise any farther.
