Pakistan and India have held their first high-level talks since New Delhi called off talks last year aimed at easing the rivals' many disputes.

Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyan Jaishankar met with his Pakistani counterpart, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, in Islamabad on March 3.

The two diplomats' rank is the equivalent of a deputy foreign minister in many countries.

Jaishankar said the two sides agreed to work together to narrow their differences but that he'd also raised concerns about cross-border terrorism.

In August, India abruptly cancelled the last round of talks in Islamabad out of anger that Pakistan's envoy in New Delhi had hosted Kashmiri separatists in preparation.

The two neighbors fought two wars over Kashmir since partition in 1947.

The Himalayan region is divided between the two countries by a disputed frontier.
