Drone Strikes Kill At Least Four Militants In North Waziristan

Pakistani intelligence officials said a U.S. drone strike killed four militants and Pakistani air strikes killed another 10 in the North Waziristan tribal area bordering Afghanistan.

Intelligence officials said the U.S. drone fired missiles at a vehicle that was traveling from a militant hideout in the Shawal area toward the border late on June 1.

One security official told AFP that five were killed in the U.S. strike, with the dead including three Uzbeks and two Pakistani Taliban militants. Two other Pakistani militants were injured, he said.

Pakistan's Army, meanwhile, told AP that its warplanes targeted militant hideouts in the Datta Khel area, killing 10 militants, including foreign fighters, and destroying a large cache of arms and ammunition.

North Waziristan has been a hub for Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants since the early 2000s.

The Pakistani military has been battling militants there for the last year.

The area is generally off-limits to journalists, making it difficult to independently verify the number and identity of the dead.
