Bomb Blast Kills Five In Northwest Pakistan

Officials say at least five people were killed and six wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a stadium in northwest Pakistan.

Police said the attack took place on May 11 in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

The bomber was apparently trying to target refugees who had fled fighting between the military and the Taliban in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The refugees had gone to a government-run camp in the Arbab Niaz Stadium to fill out paperwork ahead of their journey home.

Police said the bomber blew himself up near a small mosque inside the stadium, but could not reach the refugees because security forces opened fire, forcing the bomber to blow himself up.

Thousands of people from Tirah Valley in Khyber fled their homes after the military began an operation against Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant groups in 2011.
