Reuters has reported the death of bureau chief for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Maria Golovnina, who passed away in Islamabad on February 23 at the age of 34.
Reuters said Golovnina fell unconscious at the Islamabad bureau on February 23 and was rushed to a nearby hospital but "medical teams were unable to save her."
Reuters called Golovnina a "superb journalist" who spoke fluent Japanese and Russian.
She joined Reuters in 2001.
Golovnina started working with Reuters in Tokyo but later worked in London, Singapore, Moscow, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Golovnina became the bureau chief for Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2013.
The cause of her death is being investigated.
