Seven Pakistani Soldiers Killed Along Afghan Border

Afghanistan -- Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers fire a 120mm mortar round during an ongoing anti-Taliban operation in Dangam district near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the eastern Kunar province, January 3, 2015

Seven Pakistani soldiers have been killed by "heavy fire" along the border with Afghanistan.

Pakistani military officials said on October 27 that a military post came under fire early that day in the South Waziristan region.

It is unclear who initiated the gunfire, but Pakistani militants have been conducting cross-border assaults in the region in recent months since Pakistan deployed thousands of troops there.

In August, four Pakistani soldiers were killed in the region by a cross-border rocket attack.
