Pakistani Troops Kill Six Militants At Border Check Point

Pakistani officials say the country's military forces have thwarted an attack on a checkpoint near the Afghan border, killing at least six militants and injuring nine others.

Military officials said some 70 militants attacked the border post in the Dir tribal district in Pakistan's restive northwest, late on July 29.

Officials said the attackers fled back to Afghanistan.

Militants from both sides of the border often launch similar crossborder attacks before fleeing back.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share a 2,250-kilometer border.

The latest attack comes as Pakistani troops are carrying out a major military operation against militants in the country's North Waziristan region.
