U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Dan Feldman is to travel to Europe next week.
The Department of State says Feldman is to attend meetings with European Union and NATO officials on December 1-2 in Brussels to discuss the alliance’s security assistance to the Afghan government.
Foreign combat troops are to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of the year, leaving some 12,000 foreign troops in the country to train, advise, and assist local security forces.
Feldman will then travel to London on December 3-4 to participate in an international conference on Afghanistan.
Organizers say the conference will “provide a platform for the government of Afghanistan to set out its vision for reform and for the international community to demonstrate enduring solidarity and support for Afghanistan.”
In London, Feldman is to hold talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.
