An Al-Qaeda prisoner at Guantanamo Bay claims to have been severely mistreated, including being hung from a wooden beam for three days and kept in total darkness for nearly a year, his lawyers said on June 2.
Majid Khan, a Pakistani who authorities said worked with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to organize the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, told his lawyers that he was sexually assaulted, including with forced enemas, according to recently declassified documents.
The CIA said he received "involuntary rectal feeding" because he was on a hunger strike.
While kept in darkness, Khan said he had only a bucket for a toilet. He alleged interrogators poured ice water on his genitals, videotaped him naked, and touched his "private parts."
Khan, who is cooperating with military prosecutors on other cases, is awaiting sentencing at the U.S. base in Cuba on conspiracy and murder charges.
His lawyers are arguing that he should be treated leniently because of the extreme abuse he suffered.
