Afghan Deputy Governor Shot Dead

Abdul Qadeem Patyall

A deputy provincial governor in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar Province has been shot dead while he was sitting in class at a university.

Authorities said 32-year-old Abdul Qadeem Patyall died of his wounds after a gunman fired at him through a classroom window at Kandahar University late on November 2.

President Ashraf Ghani described his killing as a terrorist attack, the presidential palace said.

A government delegation will investigate the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Taliban insurgents have intensified antigovernment activity in recent months.
