Several Killed In Suicide Attack On TV Employees In Kabul

Firefighters inspect the wreckage a bus hit by a suicide bomb attack in Kabul on January 20.

At least seven people were killed in Kabul when a suicide bomber with a vehicle full of explosives attacked a minibus carrying employees of Tolo TV.

Several people were also reported injured in the blast, which occurred near the Russian Embassy on January 20.

Tolo TV told RFE/RL that some of its employees were among the dead.

The Russian Embassy said no Russian employees at the diplomatic compound were hurt by the blast, which sent a plume of smoke rising over the Afghan capital.

Najib Danish, a spokesman for Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry, confirmed the attack was a suicide bombing.

A building in front of the Russian Embassy was set ablaze by the blast.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Afghan Taliban have carried out an increasing number of similar attacks in Kabul and other major Afghan cities in recent months.

Late last year the Taliban declared Tolo TV to be a legitimate "military target."
