Taliban Attack Targets Kabul Guest House

Afghanistan - Members of Afghan Crisis Response Unit (CRU) arrive at the site of a Taliban attack in the Afghan capital of Kabul, Afghanistan December 11, 2015

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for an a attack on a guest house near the Spanish Embassy in Kabul.

Gunfire was reported following an alleged suicide car bomb explosion in Sherpour area, a heavily protected area that houses foreign embassies and government buildings.

Reports say at least one person was injured.

A Taliban spokesman said the attack targeted "an invader's guest house"

But a Spanish Foreign Ministry spokesman in Madrid was quoted as saying that the Spanish embassy had been "attacked.” “We are gathering details," the spokesman added.

It was not clear if the guest house was inside the embassy premises.

The attack follows an attack this week on the country's second-largest military base, Kandahar Airfield, in which more than 50 people were killed.
