Germany Arrests Pakistani Suspected Of Spying For Iran

Germany has arrested a Pakistani man suspected of spying for Iran.

The federal prosecutor's office said on July 7 that the man, identified as 31-year-old Syed Mustufa H., was arrested two days before in the northern city of Bremen.

It said in a statement that he was "in contact with an intelligence unit attributed to Iran," without elaborating.

He is accused of spying on the former head of the German-Israeli Society -- a group that promotes relations between the two countries -- and people close to him, among others, and handing over information to Iran in October 2015.

On July 6, a Federal Court judge ordered the man held in custody pending formal espionage charges.
