Pakistan's Sharif To Have Heart Surgery In London

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif looks on as he awaits the arrival of the Pakistani president at the venue of the Pakistan Day military parade in Islamabad on March 23.

Pakistan's prime minister will undergo open-heart surgery next week, his family has announced.

The daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif posted on Twitter on May 27 that her father will have the surgery on May 31 in London.

"Prayers are the most [effective] and potent medicine," Maryam Nawaz wrote.

Sharif, 66, traveled to London for medical reasons last week for the second time in two months.

If all goes well, he should spend about one week in the hospital after the surgery.

Sharif spokesman Mohyuddin Wani said on May 27 that Sharif is experiencing complications from a heart procedure he underwent in 2011.
