Pakistan's military says it has for the first time used a locally manufactured drone to target militants in the country’s northwest, killing three of them.
Army spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa said on Twitter on September 7 that the "1st ever use of Pak(istan) made Burraq Drone today. Hit a terrorist compound in Shawal Valley killing 3 high profile terrorists."
Pakistani first displayed the drone in March, saying it had been successfully tested in targeting both static and moving targets with laser-guided missiles.
Pakistan launched in July 2014 a full-scale offensive against the Pakistani Taliban and its allies in North Waziristan, where the Shawal valley is located.
The region is off-limits to journalists and it was impossible to verify the army's claims independently.
