A powerful bomb has exploded in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, killing at least four people and wounding 30.

Hospital officials say five of the wounded are in critical condition.

At least three vehicles with government license plates were damaged by the April 25 blast.

But Sharjeel Memon, the information minister of Pakistan’s Sindh Province, said it was not immediately clear if any government officials were hurt.

The explosion comes a day after a bomb attack in another area of Karachi killed a prominent police officer and three other people.

Authorities said that slain police officer Shafiq Tanoli had been targeted because of his active campaigning against terrorists.

Karachi is a hiding place for local and foreign militants. Clashes between heavily armed ethnic and political groups are common there.
