At least 20 police officers have been killed after militants attacked a provincial police headquarters in eastern Afghanistan.

Din Mohammad Darwish, spokesman for Logar Province, said four suicide bombers were involved in the attack on February 17.

Darwish said eight police officers were also wounded.

He said the death toll could rise as some of the injured were in critical condition.

Abdul Wali, a member of the provincial council, said the attackers were disguised as police and were not searched by security personnel.

In a separate attack, Taliban militants killed six police officers when they attacked a checkpoint in the southern province of Kandahar.

The attack took place in Maiwand district late on February 16.

In the capital Kabul, a bomb attached to a vehicle injured one civilian on February 17.
