Pakistani Officials Say Air Strikes Kill At Least 60 Militants

update

Pakistani military officials say "precision military air strikes" on May 21 killed at least 60 militants -- including "key" commanders -- in a Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border.

Officials said the "confirmed militant hideouts" were targeted in the early morning hours of May 21 in the town of Mir Ali, in North Waziristan.

It added that 30 other militants were wounded.

Reports say army jets and helicopters were used in several areas of North Waziristan – including the towns of Miran Shah and Boya.

Some residents said several houses were destroyed and that many people were feared to be trapped under rubble.

Road blocks and a curfew have been established, while high school and college examinations scheduled in the area for May 21 were cancelled.
