Fresh Attack Near Karachi Airport Repelled

Two gunmen opened fire at a security training facility at the Karachi airport, one day after Pakistan's busiest airport was stormed by Taliban militants.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the June 10 attack.

A spokesman for the Airport Security Force said the attackers, who were on a motorcycle, fled after Pakistani forces retaliated.

No casualties were reported, despite earlier reports of five killed.

Officials said flights resumed after a brief suspension.

An attack on the cargo terminal of the Karachi airport late on June 8 left at least 35 people dead, including the 10 attackers.

The Pakistani Taliban said the attack was in retaliation for the death of their leader in a U.S. drone strike last year.

Earlier on June 10, the Pakistani military said it had carried out air strikes in tribal areas in the country's northwest, killing at least 15 militants.
